Thaipusam At Batu Caves 2014

I am always aware that Thaipusam is one of the most happening festival in Malaysia but yet I have pretended not to be bothered about it, until this year, I have decided to make a trip to Batu Caves and do some exploring myself.

And just to give you some rough ideas,

" Thaipusam is a day for the Hindu populations of Malaysia, South India, Singapore and Sri Lanka to show thanksgiving and penance. Thaipusam honors Murugan, the Hindu god of war and victory, and participants go to extreme measures to show their gratitude.

The traditional way to celebrate Thaipusam is to bear a kavadi, or physical burden. In offering their kavadi to Murugan, devotees inflicting pain on themselves in order to be granted protection against misfortune."

Battery all charged, gear all well prepared and it's time to sleep. But sadly, I was too jumpy and excited the night before the shooting and I was not able to get to sleep. Eventually I have decided to browse through some Thaipusam-related pictures which I thought would help but it turned out to be worst, I barely sleep through the night and woke up at 2.30am, as planned.

Had a quick bite at mamak, reached Batu Caves at 4am and there I go, I begun my "Journey to The Caves".

Albeit it was still very early, the amount of devotees gathered at the Caves are simply unbelievable. I kid you not, I literally have to survive in the crowd crush shovel through the crowd to get to the top of the Caves.

As I reached the top of the Caves, this is what I got:

Look at the crowd!
A devotee getting blessed.

Another young lil devotee is getting blessed too!
And he is filled with joy!
And when the sun beginning to rise, I begun to walk downwards.. And the crowd is still expanding rapidly!

Manliness Lvl > 9999!!
This devotee looks like Jonaz Gutierrez to me.. Don't know him? Ask Google.
Yea yea I know you are looking for something like this.. There you go!
Another one..

They are not feeling the pain at all, but i do feel it for them!

Step by step, we march forward! God are with us!

A devotee bears the kavadi.
My favorite shot of the day!
And there it goes, I finally completed my shooting at about 11am and albeit the short of sleep, I still feel energetic because of all the eyes-opening-cultural-activities!! Went back home and thank God I was not stuck in traffic jam. =D

Menu Shooting for Cowboy Burger at Subang SS15/4b

I  recently received an invitation to do a menu shooting at a new burger shop in the town, Cowboy Burger. They are located at the heart of Subang Jaya, SS15/4b.

I was then welcome by the friendly sheriff, James Chai during the shooting day and I was literally surprised impressed with the quality of their food. And according to James, the master chef is a Malaysian who came back from Japan not long ago. And they came up with this Japanese-Western burger concept. As you can see, they serve a varieties of warm cheese melting patty at the heartwarming centre of a bun for the hunger and tasty of a burger.

The Japanese-Western fusion dishes certainly made me drool… Look at these mouth watery burgers!!

Their signature dish, Cowboy Double Double Piggy Burger
Another signature dish, Cowboy Aloha Piggy Burger
My favourite, Chicken Teriyaki Burger

and these….

The Carbonara
Cowboy Bolognese
The Cowboy Chicken Wings

Cowboy Mushroom Soup
And also these!!
Onion Ring
Brownie
This is a burger shop that you must not miss if you are a burger lover.

WHO ARE WE

El Retrato Photography

A lot have asked, what does El Retrato mean? In Spanish, it means The Portrait. When I first had the intention of setting up my own photography business with my partner, the first challenge is to create our own business name. A lot have come across our mind, and we have decided to settle down with El Retrato Photography.

FAQ

1. WHY EL RETRATO?

We both had the passion in capturing DECISIVE human moments, and capturing them on camera. We use our best endeavors to turn them into what people call travel and editorial photography. The aim is to capture the beauty and power of a person and hence we have developed our passion in doing portraiture photography. We love to tell story with one shot, and we love a good challenge.

In addition we shoot engagements and weddings because we love being surrounded by such happy group of people. Finding a perfect scene - catching that genuine moment - is my obsession. It is all about taking natural light, adding an accent here or there, and allowing the camera to see it the way we do in our head.

2. WHERE DO YOU RUN YOUR PROJECTS?

We are currently based in Kuala Lumpur, capital of Malaysia. We have travelled between countries such as New Zealand, Singapore and United Kingdom, and still counting. And having been grown up in a beautiful country which beautiful people around, we are no stranger to the world of beautiful portraiture photography. For the past several years, we enjoy nothing more than than helping others to achieve greatness in photography.

3. WE HAVE SOMETHING TO ASK, CAN WE CONTACT YOU?

Yeah sure you can. If you have any queries in the art and science of photography, feel free to drop us a message using the ENQUIRY FORM under the CONTACT US tab.

And also, our Facebook page will be up soon, same goes to our Flickr page. And hence, please stay tuned and we will announce our page soon!

LAST BUT NOT LEAST………….

A big thanks to these companies for making our life so great!: Nikon & Canon Cameras, Lenses, Filters and Flashes, Nissin Flashes, Sigma Lenses, Vanguard Bags, Hoya Filters, Rodenstock Filters and Matin Straps.

(…… and no I don't condone traveling heavy! But I must admit, I did carry a near to 10kg equipments to Bei Jing, and been through some tough journeys such as the Great Wall, the Temple of Heaven etc etc…….)

With love,

I believe everyone is special, and beautiful in his/her own way. And it is my mission to capture your beauty and your power through the art of photography.

My Photography, My Passion.
Mission: To create extraordinary images in my own way.
It's all about me!
I am a guy borned in a small town called Seremban, currently based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Photography is my passion. When I was in the United Kingdom few years ago, I bought my first DSLR, Nikon D5000 and fell in love since. I love to capture the beauty and power of a person and hence I have developed my interest in doing portraiture photography. After doing a few years of photoshooting, and I can truly say.... I love what I do! I know and understand that my business and success has only come to me because of you, my clients. Because of this, I try my very best at EVERY shoot to give you what you want. But if you do not know what you want, then that just makes it more interesting. I do my best when I know I can be as creative as I want, and I dont have to worry about getting the perfect shot... it usually just sneaks up on you anyway ;)

I am a bit of a romantic, and I hope my pictures reflect that. I also think fun and energy make a great photo, and try to bring that to my shoots.
